Veggie meat spareribs-type stew (Serves 8)
Veggie meat spareribs-type stew This dish uses veggie meat in a spareribs-type stew flavour. A good recipe to use when you want a main dish with plenty of volume.

Veggie meat spareribs-type stew
Ingredients
2/3 bag of block-type veggie meat.

A: 1 bag Vegeta Soup Mix (with the powder removed from the bag), 1/2 cup unbleached white wheat flour

1/2 an onion, 1 piece of ginger root, 1 segment of garlic, a little grape seed oil

B: 1/2 cup water, 6 tablespoons mirin, 4 tablespoons soy sauce, 4 tablespoons tomato ketchup, 1 tablespoon maple syrup

[Recipe]
1) Reconstitute and soften the veggie meat in plenty of hot water, squeeze off the excess water and dredge in A.

2) Chop the onion, ginger and garlic finely, place all the ingredients from B in a bowl and mix thoroughly.

3) Pour a generous amount of grape seed oil into a frying pan and heat. Fry the chopped onion, ginger and garlic, and when this is giving off a nice fragrance add the veggie meat from 1) and continue to fry. When the heat has nicely passed through everything, add the seasoning from B, close the lid and simmer over a medium flame.

4) When the moisture has evaporated from 3), take off the lid and mix the whole thing while simmering and allowing to thicken.

To look at, this looks more like chicken than spareribs , but it tastes GOOD! A good recipe for parties and special treats.

[Customer feedback]
The flavour was much more soft than I though and the melty stew texture gets a big check mark. Important to mix gently so that the veggie meat doesn't completely break up! If you make a lot at one go, then if some of it breaks up you can bind it with flour and make little patties out of it, then dredge in bread crumbs and make little 'cutlets', which makes the children jump up and down for more! Super-delicious. Thanks for the doubly healthy and delicious recipe.
