This is a hamburger for people who love natto. Come again? Natto is a gooey fermented soybean food that some people love and some people never get used to. It's a bit like baked beans in a gooey brown sauce, but eaten cold on rice and so on. Mustard soy sauce (karashi-joyu) gives this natto hamburger a very elegant flavour! |
Natto hamburger
Ingredients
8 packs of natto, 6 shiitake mushrooms, 2 long leeks, 1 carrot, 1 segment of garlic, 1 bag Vegeta Soup Mix (with the powder taken out of the bag), 1.5 cups bread crumbs, 1 cup wheat flour, small amounts of salt, pepper, mustard, soy sauce, grape seed oil |
[Recipe]
1) Grate the carrot and garlic, finely chop the shiitake mushrooms and leeks.
2) Heat a little grape seed oil in a frying pan and fry the ingredients in 1). When everything is nicely heated, add the Vegeta Soup Mix powder, fry a little more, lightly evaporating off the moisture.
3) Place the natto in a bowl, add 2) and the bread crumbs, flour, salt and pepper to bind and mix well. Divide into 8 equal parts and shape as hamburgers. (You can do this quite easily if you wet your hands with water first.)
4) Heat some grape seed oil in a frying pan, place each of the patties from 3) in the pan and Fry. (Fry both sides until nicely brown, then place the lid on the pan a fry both sides for a further 5 minutes.)
5) Place the hamburgers on a dish and enjoy them with mustard soy sauce while still hot.

When natto is made into hamburgers the volume seems to increase amazingly! Although natto is a food that ordinary people eat every day, this is a good way to turn it into something of a culinary treat! |
[Customer feedback]
People who love natto with really enjoy this! All my family love natto, and I had tried to make natto hamburgers before, but when I did I used Japanese yam and it did not work out at all. I tried again with this recipe, and the combination of the vegetables is really delicious. When all these vegetables are used with the binding the flavour does not get too plain. Delicious, healthy and filling! |
